India’s largest carmaker, Maruti Suzuki, is ready to enter the EV market with its first all-electric SUV, the Maruti Suzuki YY8. Co-developed with Toyota and built on a global EV platform, this upcoming electric car is expected to compete with Tata Nexon EV and Mahindra XUV400. The YY8 EV will feature futuristic styling, an advanced cabin, and smart EV technology aimed at the new-age buyer.

The YY8 will likely be offered in two battery pack variants: a 48 kWh and a 59 kWh version. It will be built on the 27PL platform derived from Toyota’s 40PL skateboard EV architecture.

Maruti Suzuki plans to officially unveil the production-ready version of the YY8 EV by late 2024 or early 2025, with a commercial launch scheduled around mid-2025. The car will be manufactured at Suzuki’s Gujarat EV plant and will also be exported to key global markets.
